Liturgical and Music Ministries

Adult Choir
The Music Liturgy program at St. Martha’s Parish assists in creating a prayerful environment for worship through music and song.
The Adult Choir is open to any member of the parish regardless of musical ability.  The choir rehearses Wednesday evenings (September - June) from 7:00 - 8:30 PM and sings at the 10:00 AM Mass and for special liturgical celebrations throughout the year. There are opportunities for the children of the parish to sing with the St. Martha’s Children’s Choir.  This choir is open to children in 4th Grade and older. The children join the Adult Choir at the 5:00PM Mass on Christmas Eve and also the 10:00 AM Mass on Palm Sunday.
The Cantor’s role is not that of a soloist, but to lead the congregation in song.  Those with the ability to read music and advanced vocal abilities should contact the Music Director regarding regular and substitute opportunities.
Advanced players of musical instruments (trumpet, flute, oboe and guitar) are also encouraged to contact the Music Director regarding opportunities to participate in special liturgies or play more contemporary music at select Masses.
For more information please contact: Music Director Diana LeMay at (860) 749-8457 or Choir Director Elizabeth Lambert Traceski at (860) 986-4942.

Altar Servers
Anyone in the 5th grade or higher is invited to be an altar server. The primary role of the altar server is to assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass. This is done through specific actions and by setting an example to the congregation by active participation in the liturgy (hymns, responses, etc.), by looking alert and sitting or standing at the appropriate times.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Communion / Home Bound
Manages and trains those who are called to serve at Masses when the priest deems necessary.  When a parishioner cannot come to Mass for any reason or those that are homebound, Deacon Bob relies on this ministry to bring communion to those homes.

Ministers of the Word/Lectors
A Lector is a member of our parish who has volunteered to take an active role in the Liturgy of the Mass by proclaiming the Scriptures (first and second readings during Mass) to the parishioners.  Serving the parish as a Lector is a ministry that provides the means to communicate the passion of the Scriptures in a way that has meaning to the parishioners.  It is a ministry that not only enriches the lives of those who are listening to the Word of God but also the lives of those who prayerfully proclaim the Word of God.
